Name: Gareth Walker Hall

Age: 46

D.O.B.: June 22nd, 1963

Blood Type: A Negative

Race: Human, simple and plain – but he's a vampire and were hunter! Oh yeah. ☺

Level: ONE THOUSAND and by that I mean none. Just a hunter

Powers: Extremely keen eyesight, not necessarily supernatural, but has a great aim with a gun and is very attuned to his senses.

Physical Description: Standing at about 5'9 Gareth is a blonde hair and blue eyed all American boy. He's got broad shoulders and a strong chin, and a prominent, frequently broken nose. When he smiles his mouth curves up into something bright and sunny, but he more often than not wears an uncomfortable hangdog expression thanks to a lifetime of hard work and loss. More often than not Gareth is found in tattered jeans and button ups or t-shirts, preferring these to any "fancy dress clothes." Occasionally he'll don a leather jacket, and he almost always wears cowboy boots. Despite being teased about it in high school, Gareth kept his hair long, hanging shaggy over his ears. He's trim and not unattractive, despite the misshapen nose, and has never had too much trouble luring women to bed.

Personality: Gareth is a moderately quiet and sardonic man. He grew up poor. Raised in a shitty little town -- known as "Arlie" short for Arlington, Texas—he grew up fearing God and his grandfather. This led to a more introverted personality. While he is good with people, handles any problematic situation well, he doesn't actively seek out friends. When one does get on an intimate level with him, they find Gareth to be a funny and cynical man, one who doesn't hesitate to speak openly or honestly, and who, on the whole, is surprisingly intelligent for a eleventh grade drop out. Moreso, he is fiercely loyal, and once you have his loyalty, there is very little you can do to shake it. In that way he's a bit like a floor-mat. Once you've won him over he will take any abuse thrown at him. Emotional, Physical, and anything else that might deter others simply glance off. If he is wounded by any harm thrown his way, it only shows when he is alone; otherwise he keeps his hurt to himself entirely.

Sexuality: He has no objections to bedding women, and has done so frequently. On one or two occasions he has also slept with men, though the circumstances were specific to the person. However, he's discovered over time that sex usually comes with baggage, and due to his life as a hunter, he tries to avoid getting too close to anyone. The one exception is Dusty, his friend from childhood and former fellow hunter.

Special Skills/Abilities: He's got a keen sense of eyesight, smell and hearing. He's not supernatural however; just years of hunting have sharpened his senses.

Personal Weaknesses:
1. He's too giving. Once he's gotten close to someone, he'd be willing to give them the shirt off his back. He often doesn't get close to anyone, because of this very fact. He can be too trusting, and even after being hurt will return again and again, for more abuse.
2. He's nearly illiterate. Passing through high school on football, he barely made it to eleventh grade. On mutual terms he and Dusty dropped out, but the blonde has never been beyond a second to third grade reading level.
3. He suffers from chronic insomnia, and will often go as long as four or five days without sleeping – this makes him a little high-strung and often short tempered with anyone other than Dusty.

Personal Strengths:
1. Fiercely loyal, much like a dog. Once he considers you a friend or confidant, there will be no shaking him. He's killed for those he loves, and would do so again if asked to.
2. Incredibly clever. While a little on the dim side when it comes to books or school, Gareth has a keen mind and is exceptional when it comes to logic puzzles, riddles, and deduction.
3. He's fast to pick up on something once he's seen it done. The blonde knows a plethora of first aid skills and is always able to learn more, despite his inability to read well.

Family: His mother, father, and grandfather are all deceased, his siblings long out of touch, living in Arlington Texas to this day. Dusty is his only true companion.

Living Conditions: In one of the trailers in Scarlet Oak's trailer park.

Career/Job: Until recently he's made money off hunting any and everything supernatural. Currently he is on hiatus from hunting, though he's made more than enough money from hunting commissions to provide for a while.

Gareth Walker Hall was born to Rita Burette and Bobby Richard Hall on June 22nd in 1966. He was the third out of four children, and raised with two brothers and one sister. Gareth's father was a quiet, serious man with a full-time job at a plant that produced fertilizer components. He wasn't an intelligent man, and barely made minimum wage, but he was a hard worker. Gareth was only seven when his father died. There was an explosion at the fertilizer plant, on the midnight shift, which his father had agreed to work, as the usual night manager had just had his first child. The next two weeks were difficult on the family. Rita retired to her bedroom and rarely left unless it was to go down to city hall and collect food stamps. Within the month Gareth's grandfather, Ezekiel Hall moved in with them, providing him with a little money to get by.

Gareth had never really met his grandfather. He was his father's father, and he had never been welcome at their house. When Gareth had asked his mother why, she had swatted him impatiently, the way busy trailer park mothers sometimes do, and sent him out to play, telling him it was none of his "Gaw'dayum business an' five years old is too old to be snoopin' around". But that didn't exactly sate the young boy's curiosity. Sometimes the phone would ring at two in the morning and Gareth would hear his father answer. It always started as an impatient and exhausted conversation, which quickly grew to a shouting that woke all the children. From these midnight conversations Gareth learned that his father "didn't need" his grandfather's "crazy ass buttin' into his life." One night the screaming got so loud that Gareth had to conclude that his father had been drinking. Sober the old man would never scream so. He listened intently, learning -- through a mingling of educated guesses and what his father was screaming – that his grandfather wanted his father to "Join the family business". Whatever that meant was just beyond him.

So, of course, when Grandpa Ezekiel showed up at their house and introduced himself to the children, Gareth didn't know what to think. Now at the more educated age of seven, the blonde boy had a few ideas of what his father had been avoiding. Grandpa 'Zeke had some sort of business, from which he was retired, and Gareth knew that it was a very dangerous one. But he didn't know why. He also knew that both his uncles, whom he'd met once or twice, were part of it, and his father had been the only one not to join. When Grandpa 'Zeke moved in, things around the house grew remarkably more tense. Their mother snapped more often despite the extra money coming in to the house and sometimes Gareth heard her crying, late at night. It was a difficult year for everyone, and it's a wonder that Gareth was able to get through it.

The one saving grace in the young boy's life was Dusty. Dustin Lawrence Baker, better known as "Dusty" fell into Gareth's life almost immediately after the boy's father died. They met in first grade at Rosa Gurrero elementary and middle school. Dusty had been in the bathroom -- bruises on his cheeks and neck, some new, some old, that told Gareth that Dustin was no stranger to physical abuse – crying. Gareth had sneaked out of his classroom to steal milk while the lunch ladies were on their smoke break, and stopped by the bathroom to pee. Dusty had shouted at him for coming in, and in return, Gareth offered him a chocolate milk. It was a lasting friendship in the making.

Around the time Gareth turned ten, the tension had grown in his household to phenomenal proportions. Almost every night his mother and grandfather had screaming matches—Gareth had only a vague idea of what the fighting was about, but he'd manage to figure out that his grandfather wanted him to join the family business. By then his older brother was gone, living in a trailer park with his girlfriend, and his older sister spent most of her time staying with friends rather than being home. Gareth and his younger brother were left to fend with their strange grandfather and apathetic mother. During one of the brawls Gareth finally snapped. At the age of ten, he felt he had a right to know what his grandfather wanted of him. Despite his mother's protests, grandpa 'Zeke took him out one evening and told him everything.

The family business, something the Halls had been doing for time out of mind, was Hunting. The word bore an ominous tone when his Grandfather used it. Gareth had listened in silence for nearly two hours while his grandfather explained everything to him. There were mysterious things out in the world. Things that didn't want anyone to know about them, things that drank blood and turned into monsters at the light of the full moon. His granddad further explained that it was the Hall family's responsibility to weed out these unnatural creatures, to stop their blood drinking, their mindless killing. Gareth was taken immediately. This was the stuff of comic books, of Tales from the Crypt. He loved it. His Granddad made him solemnly swear that he would not tell anyone about their family work, but every promise has a weak spot, and for Gareth the weak spot was Dusty. A few days passed and finally the blonde boy broke down, spilling everything to Dusty. It goes without saying that the other boy wanted in immediately.

There was no fight. Grandpa 'Zeke wanted Gareth to follow in his footsteps, and if the catch was that Dusty would be included, then Dusty would be included. Their training was rigorous – and Gareth's mother was furious.

By the time he was sixteen Gareth had far exceeded his grandfather's expectations. He was a cold and calculating killer, and Dusty was even better than him – they had successfully taken out almost all supernaturals in Arlington. The city became known as one to steer clear of by all near-by supernaturals.

Grandpa Zeke died of old age when Gareth was in his twenties, and from there on out he and Dusty made it their personal mission to carry on the family business. It was work they loved, work that they were good at, and most of all, work that paid. They had more than enough money to get by, and they traveled, becoming notorious for being some of the most effective hunters in the country.

Times were good. Dusty and Gareth were best friends; they worked hard together and enjoyed each other's company, when they weren't fighting anyway. After a lifetime of working together, they grew to know one another well enough to be comfortable despite any situation – together; they believed that they were infinite.

This all changed one night. The pair had made tracks to Ann Arbor, hearing that it was a safe-haven of sorts for the Supernatural. Dusty and Gareth, on a rare change of plans, decided to split up while hunting a specific vampire. He had been giving them the run for nearly two days and they were both frustrated and angry about the situation. Being outsmarted never settled well with Dusty, and on this particular case, Gareth agreed. Both of them had nearly lost their lives to the monster on the chase.

For the want of a nail, the kingdom was lost. So goes the proverb, and later, when Gareth had time to reflect on such things, he would realize just how much that statement pertained to the night that cost them everything.
The vampire – if they had to call it anything it was always "The Vampire" never by any known name – had eluded them somehow, and Dusty, in a furious fervor, demanded they split up to look around the warehouse they'd seen him dart into. Gareth had agreed, hesitantly, and they'd taken separate entrances into the huge and looming building.

Gareth had no idea what happened in the time he wandered the endless halls and rooms of the building. He never caught a single glimpse of the vampire, though his ears and eyes were attuned. No sounds for nearly forty minutes. It was strange and unnerving, and Gareth was terrified. Then, out of the still, it came. A shriek. It sounded inhuman, horrible. Gareth ran.

Across the building, down three flights of stairs and... there was blood. Not a lot, but enough to make him panic. He'd shouted for Dusty, but heard no reply, and it wasn't until he'd nearly stumbled over his friend's body that what was happening sunk in. The vampire was gone... probably long gone. Dusty was on the floor in a rictus of agony, moaning, clawing, and Gareth realized with dawning horror what had happened.

"He—He turned you—" The words were barely out of his mouth before he found himself on his knees. The change was almost complete. He had seen the process more than enough times to know the stages... whatever had happened. He was too late.

Dusty begged for Gareth to end his life, but Gareth couldn't. Couldn't bring himself to kill the one person who had been by his side for most of his life. Instead he took Dusty back to the apartment they'd rented, refusing to let him take his own life as well.

The next night, while the older man was still recovering, Gareth went out, wandered the streets. He had only murder on his mind. He had practically lost the only person in the world, and it was because of The Vampire. He began, for the first time in his life, a hunt on his own. Tracking was as easy as ever, though without Dusty for company the work felt empty, horrible and meaningless. He followed the Vampire for most of the evening and night, just catching glimpses of him. The Vampire knew he was being followed, and just as Gareth thought he'd lost the trail, he was attacked.

The battle was brief. Gareth had the monster dead in under two minutes, though he continued to beat and kick the body for another ten – anger, rage, and worst of all, despair, over took him. Dusty was one of the Supernaturals now. Dusty was what they hated. What they hunted. He burned the body and scattered the ashes as he walked home.

Unsure of what to do – and now feeling the need to stay hidden – Dusty and Gareth decided to stay in Ann Arbor, a place where supernaturals were welcomed... no matter how much they hated it. They've been in the city for nearly six weeks, though they haven't exactly "settled in" so to speak.
